Gruyère Hydrogen Power SA (GHP), a subsidiary of Gruyère Energie SA, has launched a flagship project to produce up to 900 kg of green hydrogen per day in Bulle, Switzerland. To supply demanding industrial customers—particularly Liebherr Machines Bulle SA, which requires consistent hydrogen quality and flow rates for engine testing—GHP needed a storage solution capable of guaranteeing uninterrupted availability regardless of electrolyzer variability.
The Challenge: Ensuring a Reliable, On-Demand Hydrogen Supply
For industrial users like Liebherr, even short interruptions in hydrogen supply can stall operations, disrupt testing cycles, and generate significant downtime costs. GHP therefore required a buffer system that could safely store hydrogen produced at low pressure and release it on demand without relying on high-pressure compressors, which are costly, maintenance-intensive, and introduce additional failure modes.
Without a reliable buffer, electrolyzer fluctuations or maintenance could have directly impacted GHP’s customers. A resilient storage layer was essential for operational stability.
